Seniors Want to Stay at Home, and We Can Help

Minority Family

It should come as no surprise that senior citizens would rather live at home than at a retirement home or skilled nursing facility.

When you live in a house long enough, it becomes your partner. It’s where you celebrated the good times and coped with the bad times. It’s where you raised your children and entertain your grandchildren. It’s where you stay in touch with old friends and long-time neighbors. It’s your castle.

AARP, America’s leading advocate for the elderly, focused on this reality with a 2010 study. Asked to respond to the statement “What I’d really like to do is stay in my current residence for as long as possible,” nearly nine out of 10 respondents 65 or older either “strongly agreed” (78%) or “somewhat agreed” (10%).

But as everyone with an elderly loved one knows, it’s not always as simple as that. Each year we watch our parents or grandparents get a little weaker, more frail, more forgetful. It seems like one day they lose their ability to drive, and the next they can’t keep up with their meals or their medications. We start to wonder if it’s time for them to enter a skilled nursing facility or a retirement home.

Fortunately, that may not be necessary. Stay at Home is a companion care service dedicated to helping seniors stay at home as long as possible. We can help your loved one keep up with medications or meals. We’re there if they need light housecleaning or rides to medical appointments or social engagements. And we love gabbing with someone who lives alone (if that’s what they want).

Over the coming weeks we will review how our innovative senior care can help with 10 of the biggest challenges faced by elders living at home and their families.

The challenges are:

  • Personal hygiene
  • Nutrition
  • Medications
  • Fall risks
  • Transportation
  • Routine maintenance
  • Household Cleaning
  • Emotional Isolation
  • Stress on the family
  • Financial management

If you have a loved one who is having a difficult time living alone, please give us a call. Chances are we can help.
